Bio

Ms. Bernice Iwacu is an activist, women empowerment advocate, education for less advantaged volunteer servant and she is currently a social development volunteer and a storyteller.

Born and raised in Rwanda in a time where children's sexual abuse was a Tabu to denounce; she enjoyed more than anyone that ignorance being eradicated in Rwanda. she mentored young girls through a 12+ program.

As a nature lover, a wild oriented and a social storyteller woman, she served her country as a Volcanoes National Park ranger and guide for 8 years where she also got the privilege to work with the local community on educating and helping them to realize their role in the park protection/management involvement.

As part of a small women guides group; involving more women in conservation became one of her drives and she advocated for that cause in primary schools and high schools in the area of Virunga mountains.

At some point, she started to wonder if it was enough for less advantaged children just to advocate for conservation. Her answer was: ”It is not enough”. Currently, she is writing kids’ books which will help children to understand more of nature conservation and protection through reading, as one of the solutions to help those less privileged and less advantaged ones to understand it more from a young age.

Ms. Iwacu holds a Master's degree in Social development, is an International Visitor Leadership program alumnus which is one of the U.S. State Department programs, a Bold Leader, and an UNLEASH 2019 talent.
