Swati Thiyagarajan

Bio

Swati Thiyagarajan is a national and international award winning conservation journalist and news documentarian. She was the Environment Editor at NDTV for over a decade and is consulting editor for the award winning special programmes on the environment. She presented, researched, and scripted her own television show Born Wild for over 15 years and the crew was the first all women crew in the field on a wildlife show for television. Ten years ago she helmed a series Wild Walk on conservation issues in South Africa and Directed and edited the film, the Animal Communicator , available now on Amazon Prime in the US. It has over 8 million views on YouTube. She is the author of the book Born Wild: Journeys into the wild hearts of India and Africa which is in its second print run. At present she lives in Cape Town with her husband Craig Foster and works at the Sea Change Project a not for profit organisation working towards the long term conservation of the Great African Seaforest. Sea Change Project helped produce My Octopus Teacher , Academy Award nominee and BAFTA winner for Best documentary feature. She was an Associate Producer on the film and the Production Manager. She believes that the greatest threat facing the planet right now is the disconnect the technologically driven human world has created between people and nature. She believes we are nature and need to restart the journey of heart connection with the wild world. She believes that this decade is the decade of hope and that together people can make a difference.
